Automation is the process of using technology and computers to replace human labor, such as robots in factories, medical technology, and self-driving vehicles. In some ways, automation is beneficial to the world and the economy. Robots work for free, requiring no food or water. There is also no risk of human error, and robots are much more efficient than humans. However, automation can take jobs away from human workers. For example, at the Port of L.A., any of the people who unload the containers off of the ships are getting replaced by automated cranes. However, truck drivers have been supportive of the transition. Currently, they are paid by the number of containers they deliver. With cranes in place, the drivers don’t lose precious time waiting in lines to get containers loaded on their trucks. Overall, automation is starting to become more prominent in the world, benefiting some, and harming others.
Recently, many people have brought up the issue of self driving cars. These people have raised the question of if the driver is responsible for deaths caused in accidents, or if the company who made the cars is responsible.
