What does the Master Plan do for the river and surrounding area?
Elevated parks like this are an idea in the Master Plan that hopes to make the river more welcoming.

The idea for the Master Plan was first proposed in 1996, but the Master Plan today consists of 9 main goals for the river. Some of the goals include reducing flood risk, supporting healthy and connected ecosystems, embracing and enhancing opportunities for arts and culture, and promoting clean water. Even with these positive ideas, some people living in Los Angeles disagree with the Master Plan because there are some concerns that are not addressed by it. The plan proposes adding parks and other greenery, but also wants to maintain flood control in the LA River. In the meantime, others think that gentrification will soon take over due to this, causing rising cost of living and changes in the demographics. Many citizens believe that the Master Plan should rethink some of its proposals because it could negatively affect a lot of people. The LA County Board of Supervisors is still considering whether to approve it.
Having more bike paths along the river will make it easier for people living in the city to exercise and provides a better surrounding area for the river.
