Ancient Rome obtained most of the water for their aqueducts from springs rather than lakes. They used tunnels to irrigate water, which was similar to the way that Los Angeles used tunnels for their aqueduct. Ancient Rome used the water for everyday needs, like drinking and washing hands, as well as for leisure, like supplying baths or fountains.
The Ancient Romans built a water bridge, the Pont du Gard, to transport water.

India and Pakistan were nearly at war in February 2019. Supposedly, a Pakistan citizen was in possession of lethal weapons and destroyed an Indian Convoy/bus which killed around 33 men. Because of that, India threatened to stop water from the Chenab River from going into Pakistan, which nearly caused a water war.

The Soviet Union wanted to boost their cotton industry, so they diverted water from the Amu Darya and the Syr Darya rivers to Central Asia’s desert steppes, leaving the southern part of the Aral Sea to dry up. Kazakhstan encases the Northern Aral Sea, while Uzbekistan surrounds the Southern Aral Sea. Uzbekistan relates to the Owens Valley because their water was stolen, while Kazakhstan relates to Los Angeles, having no shortage of water.
